Upset Customer

In the state of Missouri, a retail store cannot sell over two otc cold medicines to the same person in one day. I work retail, and sell a lot of cold medicines and we have signs posted telling the costomer the law above the medicine section. Today I had a costomer who wanted to buy three different cold medications. I told the customer that by law I could only sell her two of the three. She got a little irritated, and I can see her point. She asked me what she was suppose to because she had an entire family that was sick, and two bottles wouldn't last but a couple of days. I apologized and told that I understood how she felt. The whole time she was pretty mad, you could hear it in her voice. She apologized and said that she understood why I couldn't sell it to her. She wasn't too convincing. I thought this was a great example of communication. Both verbally and nonverbally.

Speeches

On Tuesday, we gave speeches in Oral Communications class. It was the first speech that we were assigned and for the most part, I think that it went very well. There was a lot of nonverbal elements that many people gave to their audience. For instance, you could really tell those who were nervous because little eye contact was made. And what was made, was to a select few. Granted, I was scared out of my mind! But, I looked at everyone in the audience and I thought that I did a real good job hiding how I really felt in front of everyone. I got an A- on the speech, and my peers said that I did really well and they said that I did not come across 'nervous'. So I think that I hid that element rather well. As for communication, normal gestures were quite present yesterday, in those who acted like they were comfortable ;)

Mind Your Business!!

I saw on Fox News earlier where people were making a big deal about the latest pregnancy amongst well known people - "Sen. Palin's 17 yr old daughter is pregnant." I can see why people are making a fuss over it when Palin was announced McCain's running mate, but seriously, what is so wrong with this specific 17 yr old getting pregnant when there are several young girls much younger than 17 having babies? I think people should just mind their own business and find out what their own daughters have been up to, instead of worrying about Palin's daughter. Its not like she's running for office!
